(Arthur possibly 1597 Barnstaple s/o Henrye), marriage 17 Nov 1696 Sarah (possibly 1660 d/o Robert & Valentine) to Robert REEDMy earliest known ancestral event in Axminster was the 1785 marriage of 3XG-GF Mathew CROSS to Susanna VIRGIN. Mathew was described as "of Charmouth" which is in Dorset. Four children baptised at Axminster: Sarah 1786, Elizabeth 1789, Mary 1796, GG-GF George 1797/8, and 3 infants who lived a short time.
GG-GF George married Mary Ann GODDARD at Axminster in 1826, baptised five children at Membury, but was in Axminster for the 1841 census where a son was born, and died there in 1881Mathew may have had brothers Nicholas & Thomas"of Charmouth" in Axminster 1779-c.1838.
